ABOUT US

The Skateboarding Alliance of Montana (SAM) is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to building community, promoting inclusivity, and expanding access to skateboarding across the state of Montana.

Originally founded as the Gallatin Valley Skateboard Alliance (GVSA) in the early 2000s, the organization played a pivotal role in the creation and expansion of Kirk Park Skatepark in Bozeman, and the Belgrade Skatepark. Through advocacy, fundraising, and community engagement, GVSA helped secure one of the most iconic skate spots in the region, inspiring generations of local skaters and setting the tone for Montana’s modern skate culture.

After several quiet years, SAM is now under new leadership, reinvigorated with a fresh vision and statewide focus. We’re building on the legacy of GVSA while embracing a broader mission: to support skateparks, skate programs, and skate culture throughout Montana—from Bozeman to Butte, Livingston to Missoula, and beyond.

We believe skateboarding is more than a sport — it’s a vehicle for self-expression, confidence, and community. Whether it’s running youth clinics, hosting statewide contests like Shredtember, or producing skate spotlights and documentaries, SAM is committed to celebrating the culture, the people, and the places that define Montana skateboarding.

This is a new chapter — one rooted in DIY spirit, creative expression, and collective momentum. We’re here to roll forward, together.
